Tanzania - Wagogo songs (OCR560155)
The Wagogos, Tanzanian farmers and shepherds, have developed a magnificent vocal tradition. The voice is, by turn, monodic, polyphonic and rhythmic. The entire vocal panoply is exploited - ullulations, yodelling, rhythmic breath, throat voice and falsetto, melody, antiphony, choirs in which each village member has his place. Their songs tell of village life, accompany initiation rites and daily labour.
